Our Motto is “Zero to Hire”

If you want to become a professional pilot, we can take you from no experience to getting there! Crosswinds fulfills your requirements.

How do we get you there?

We have a number of FAA ratings: Our program lets you choose any rating. Most of our program participants do them all, but they can be done a-la-carte to meet your needs and requirements.

Private Pilot’s License (PLL)

The Private Pilot certificate, internationally referred to as the Private Pilot License (PPL), is your first goal as a pilot. The PPL provides foundational knowledge and skills for all future aircraft pilot training. As a Private Pilot, you can fly an airplane day and night in visual flight conditions. In fact, you can even carry passengers, such as friends, family, and co-workers. Still, there are some restrictions. For instance, you cannot fly for paid compensation or hire. In other words, you can’t make money as a private pilot or look for actual jobs flying. However, you can share the operating expenses with your passengers. The PPL is your foundation course on a pathway to an airline pilot career where you can earn a good salary.

CFI (Certified Flight Instructor) and CFII (Certified Instrument Instructor)

The Certified Flight Instructor – FAA CFI(A) License and Certified Flight Instrument Instructor – FAA CFII(A) License will allow you to train future aspiring pilots. With a FAA CFI(A) license you will be able to teach FAA PPL(A) and CPL(A), with a FAA CFII(A) you will be allowed to teach FAA IR(A). These qualifications you provide you with excellent experience as PIC and as a professional pilot.

By being a flight instructor, you build your hours (250-1000) and get paid to do so.

An Instrument Rating (IR) is a pilot rating earned through intensive training focused on flying solely by reference to instruments. It is arguably one of the most valuable ratings you can add to your pilot certificate and is a fun and challenging discipline of flight training.

This program is designed to enable a private pilot to obtain a Commercial Certificate with Instrument and Multi-Engine Ratings. Additionally, the student receives flight instructor training to achieve the Certified Flight Instructor (CFI) and Certified Flight Instructor Instrument Rating (CFII). With these ratings, the pilot increases his/her hiring opportunities. Need 250 hours.

Multi Engine Rating is a pilot rating that qualifies you to fly as pilot-in-command (PIC) of any aircraft with more than one engine. It is a necessary pilot certification add-on for any aspiring pilot to advance to the airlines, or to increase their overall marketability in the aviation workforce.

We are here to help you obtain and earn your ATP certificate (Air Transport Pilot)

If you’re planning to fly for a career, certain pilot training and certification are required. A commercial pilot certificate is required to begin earning money as a pilot, while an airline transport pilot certificate is required to become an airline pilot or a charter captain.

A few years ago the FAA changed the regulations required to obtain a multiengine ATP certificate. Like other pilot certificates, a written and practical test are required, but certain additional steps are now involved.

In order to be eligible for an ATP certificate you must:

  • Be of good moral character
  • Be 23 years old
  • Hold a commercial pilot certificate and an instrument rating
  • Pass the ATP written and practical tests, and
  • Meet the minimum flight hour requirements specified in FAR Part 61.

Here’s what others are saying…

2017 AOPA Distinguished Flight Schools Award

Wow! Again I appreciate everything your team has done. I don’t think given the time constraints that this monumental task could have been completed elsewhere. In the guard and throughout you will always have an exemplary recommendation from me. Not to mention the top notch, clean and well maintained fleet you offer to your clients which is very impressive. It was also very obvious to me yesterday that you run a very tight knit family with your staff, as I witnessed everyone’s interest regarding Connor’s check-ride. Either that or they were happy to finally see him go…

Anyway the experience, I feel couldn’t have been matched anywhere else in Michigan and I am glad we were able to find you.

Have a great rest of the summer and I will see you in July with Connor’s sister Casey.

Thank you so much. As of last week, I had not found a flight school I felt comfortable at. When I met you, your lovely wife, and Scott, I knew I wanted to continue with all of you. You all have made me feel so welcomed and have facilitated me on everything. It feels very nice and comforting knowing you all genuinely care about aviation and your students. I feel honored to fly there. Thank you once again! Hope you all have a wonderful weekend!
